STAFF MEMBERS:
Our forum leader, GFS Brenda, leads a knowledgeable group of volunteer staff members that are here to help you find your way up your family tree. Staff members are volunteers who work on their own time and using their own home computers. Staff members cannot be hired to do your research for you, but are here to help you learn how to climb your family tree!
PHONE CD SEARCH FACILITIES:
The Internet has access to FREE phone number directory services (it only costs the normal connect time). You can look up any residential or business phone number and complete address, as many names as you want or use a reverse directory to match a phone number to its user. To access these sites, use our collection at http://www.genealogyforum.com/beginner/phone.htm.
There are links to several wonderful phone search utilities here.
INTERNET CENTER:
With access to the Internet's World Wide Web, you can go to some GREAT genealogy sites at http://www.genealogyforum.com/internet/. Have fun exploring new and informative genealogy resources!
MESSAGE BOARDS:
Our message boards work on a volunteer principle. We invite you to post any questions you might have and we encourage you to post a reply in answer to anybody else's question that you have information about. Together we can learn and benefit from each others' experiences and, who knows, you could find a distant cousin or two researching the same lines you are!
You can find these message boards on our web site:
* New? Introduce Yourself!
* Alphabetic Surname
* African Ancestored
* Canadian Genealogy
* German Genealogy
* Hispanic Genealogy
* Huguenot Genealogy
* Irish Genealogy
* Jewish Genealogy
* Native American Genealogy
* U.S. Research
* Conference and Reunion Announcements
* Ancestral Seasonings - Family Recipe Board
Users should check out the above message boards. The messages are indexed into our site's SEARCH ENGINE. Remember, all Internet users have access to these boards.
Don't forget to post the family names you are looking for in our message boards under the "Alphabetic Surname" topic, too, if you wish. Then, if you are interested in doing research from a foreign country or specific ethnic group, post in those topics.
Remember, when you post a public message, it is available for others to read and it is indexed into our search engine function for easier discoveries.
SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION:
Please make sure to take advantage of our search engine that can be found at http://www.genealogyforum.com/search.html Just fill out the query form and click on "SEARCH." You will be amazed at all the wonderful resources and articles that will pop up.
RESOURCES
The Genealogy Forum has all kinds of resources available to the genealogist. We have addresses to Government Facilities, Genealogy Societies, Historical Societies and more. There are "Regions of the World" where you can find geographically organized research material, and "Vital/Other Records" and so on and so on. You can find the Resources area on our site at http://www.genealogyforum.com/resource/
REUNIONS
Just as the title states, we have a great group of resources available to the person that is planning a family reunion. Our users will enjoy the information about Reunions at
http://www.genealogyforum.com/reunion/
CHAT ROOMS:
We no longer hold "live chat" meetings but we may consider adding them in the future if we find enough interest in them. Genealogy chats are also still available on AOL in the Research & Learn area (Keyword: Genealogy Community - AOL Members: Tell AOL what you think of this change at Keyword:TELL US)
FILE LIBRARY:
Our file library consists of files uploaded by other forum members. In the past, anyone could upload a file and write their own file description, so if you find a file that you have questions about, check the description and see who it is listed as being "Uploaded By" and compose an email to that person. That person is best able to answer questions about his/her own upload. Most of the files we now have on this site are viewable through your internet connection without having to download them.
When you are looking at files to download, be sure to read the entire description carefully. This will give you specific information about that file that you may need to know in order to use it. If it says unzipping or that PKZIP or an unzipper is required, you won't need one if you are using AOL since AOL can automatically unzip files if you make the setting changes, first. (Click on the word "Settings" at the top of your screen, then "Preferences" and set your download preferences to automatically unzip any files -- you only need to set this once.)
If you choose to upload a file to the Genealogy Forum, please email GoldenGateServices@aol.com with "New File Uploads" in the subject line BEFORE you send any files and we will send details on how to donate information.
All files in our library have been reviewed and checked for viruses.
