Focusing on GSP's

The goals and focus of this area is to provide the new buyer of, or those wishing to upgrade, a Genealogy Software Program (GSP) with helpful information about the programs available for PC (DOS or Windows) and MAC platforms. It includes two sections -

      Section 1

A flow chart to assist individuals in gaining an understanding of GSPs and their functions. Included will be documents on:

What a genealogy program is, how it works, its component parts.
        • A review of the screen appearance, assessing the "friendliness" of a GSP.
        • Forms - what are they, how are they used.
        • Electronic communications between genealogy programs (GEDCOM)
        • Match/Merge functions
        • Register formats - what is that!! Production of "Books".
        • Bells and whistles - What are they and are they necessary.
        • Sources and Documentation - what's the standard, what is a Source Manager.

      Section 2

This section offers links to and reviews of the software programs available. Included in the reviews will be strengths and weaknesses, cost vs practical use, and highlights of the program's most desirable attributes.
