Employment Records

Sometimes you can gain information about an ancestor through employment records. Employers are extremely careful about divulging any information about employees, living or deceased. However, if you can provide proof of your relationship -- and come in contact with a sensitive human resources department -- you may be able to obtain some valuable information.

Think of all the information requested on an employment application form. Name, address, telephone, place of birth, date of birth (in the old days), marital status, spouse's name, children/dependents, previous employment history. These are all possible research paths for you.

Don't ignore the value of employment records!
